Tormenta is the most famous and loved Brazilian medieval fantasy TTRPG setting. In its 20th anniversary celebration, I was chosen to revitalize the game's branding and visual identity (for the second time; the first time I worked with this rebranding was in 2011), in this new edition called Tormenta 20.

The crowdfunding campaign took place at the end of 2019 and was the largest fundraiser in Latin America for tabletop games at the time, showing the public's love and the strength of the product. I did the overall design for the new edition, including associated products like decks of cards and the game world map.

We've won several national awards, including Ludopedia 2020 in more than one category.

Above you see the general visual idea. The main element of Tormenta's universe is a red alien storm ("Tormenta" in Portuguese means Storm) that brings destruction, corruption and strange demons. The storm's most iconic visual element is the so-called "red matter", a kind of bloody slime.

In my previous work I had already used this element a lot for borders and other visual elements, and this time the idea was to create a kind of pattern with a more stylized form of this material, but bringing "hidden" symbols of the world's gods, which are very important (Greek mythology style).  As you can see, is very inspired by the work of HR Giger and ancient carved murals.

The central element in both the logo and the pattern is the eye of Aharadak, Tormenta's most important entity at the moment. As part of the game world invasion, he took the place of one of the gods. The symbols of various deities around the eye (the place where this is most complete is the DM Screen) gives a more comprehensive idea of the invasion. I like to bring storytelling into my visual elements, and this was the best time to bring the rich Tormenta lore into the product's identity.
Branding
The rebranding respects and updates the previous model, with the Eye of Aharadak and the final painting resembling red material. The spikes and forms recall the characteristics of the game´s insect-like demons.
As I couldn't find any font type that could fully convey the power of the game, I created a new typeface myself.
